Social Development and Social Work

Social development requires the removal of barriers so that all citizens can journey toward their dreams with confidence and dignity. It is about refusing to accept that people who live in poverty will always be poor. It is about helping people so they can move forward on their path to selfsufficiency. Social work has its roots in the Industrial Revolution's social and economic upheavals, particularly the societal battle to deal with poverty and its consequences. Because poverty was the main focus of early social work, it was intricately linked with the idea of charity work. For instance, it is common for modern social workers to find themselves dealing with consequences arising from other "social problems" such as racism, sexism, homophobia, and discrimination based on age or physical or mental disability. The book will not only be helpful to the students of Social Science disciplines like sociology, social work and Anthropology but also to the persons interested in social development.

Corey Sandoval pursued his Master in Social Work from University College Dublin, Ireland. He has served as a faculty in the department of social development for over seven years now. Sandoval has excelled in his professional life and is currently working for community development.
