Crimes Against Children : Prosecution and Defence

Each year, more than two million children around the world fall victim to commercial, sexual and labour exploitation. Surely, they are among the most vulnerable and innocent victims of crimes. The growing epidemic of child exploitation demands a coordinated response. Crimes against children include physical and emotional abuse; neglect; and exploitation, such as through child pornography or sex trafficking of minors. Child-related crimes often are perpetrated by parents, relatives, caretakers, and others who are charged with their care and guidance. The laws in most countries require school officials, physicians, police officers, and other such authority figures to report any signs of abuse or exploitation against a child. This book is uniquely descriptive, in the sense that it relies on real-world examples to serve up practical advice and reform proposals for those involved at all levels of this challenging area.
