Contemporary Economic Sociology‐Globalization, Production, Inequality

Economic sociology is the multidisciplinary study of the social cause and effect of various economic phenomena. The field can be broadly divided into a classical period and a contemporary one, known as "New economic sociology". Economic sociology analyzes economic phenomena such as markets, corporations, property rights, and work using the tools of sociology. It not only shares the role of interests and rationality in the economic theory, but also emphasizes the importance of social relations and social institutions. Contemporary economic sociology focuses particularly on the social consequences of economic exchanges, the social meanings they involve and the social interactions they facilitate or obstruct. Both capitalism and globalization have often been vilified – sometimes even paired up as a supervillain duo. They have been charged with pretty much everything going wrong in our lives. The present book closely examines critical and contemporary issues in the sociology of economic life. The book is relevant to graduate students and scholars of economic and political sociology, politics and government, geography, economics and international relations.
